Parent Consultation

Parent Consultation Services

Sometimes you do not need ongoing therapy. You need clarity, direction, and a place to think through what is happening with your child.

Parent consultation is a focused, private pay service for parents and caregivers who want guidance around a specific concern. Consultation provides space to ask questions, better understand your child’s needs, identify practical supports, and clarify possible next steps.

This service is not ongoing therapy, psychological testing, a diagnostic evaluation, or crisis care. It does not establish an insurance based therapy relationship or create an insurance based treatment plan.

Parent Consultation Might Be Helpful If You Are:

  • Wondering whether your child may need mental health therapy, testing, school supports, medical follow up, or another type of service
  • Trying to understand a new diagnosis, new symptoms, or changing concerns
  • Unsure how to support a child who is experiencing stress, grief, disability, medical concerns, or major life changes
  • Seeking another professional perspective about care options, next steps, or how to prioritize supports
  • Preparing for a school meeting, evaluation, IEP meeting, 504 Plan discussion, medical visit, or care conference
  • Deciding what supports to advocate for and how to communicate your child’s needs at school, in healthcare, or within the community
  • Looking for practical routines, structure, incentive systems, coping supports, or developmental strategies that fit your child’s needs
  • Looking for guidance while waiting for therapy, testing, medical care, or specialty services
  • Feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to start

What to Expect

Parent consultation is focused, practical, and usually completed within 1 to 3 sessions.

The goal is to help you clarify the concern, understand possible contributing factors, learn about care options, and decide what next steps may make the most sense.

During consultation, we may:

  • Clarify your concerns, questions, and priorities
  • Discuss relevant developmental, emotional, medical, school, or family factors
  • Identify what has already been tried and what has or has not helped
  • Provide education about different types of psychological services, such as outpatient therapy, intensive outpatient programs, partial hospitalization programs, psychological testing, parent consultation, family therapy, or care coordination
  • Explain common therapy approaches, such as CBT, DBT, ERP, trauma therapy, somatic therapy, family therapy, or skills based treatment, so you can better understand what may fit your child’s needs
  • Help you think through how to choose the right provider, therapy approach, or level of support
  • Serve as a professional sounding board when you are comparing different providers, programs, or recommendations
  • Identify practical strategies for home, school, or daily life
  • Help you think through advocacy and communication with schools, medical teams, therapists, or other providers
  • Help prioritize next steps in a realistic plan

Follow up consultation sessions may focus on:

  • Reviewing what has changed
  • Problem solving barriers
  • Refining strategies based on new information
  • Preparing for school meetings, medical visits, evaluations, or care conferences
  • Supporting parent communication and advocacy
  • Preparing questions or feedback for a current provider so the family can better understand goals, roles, and next steps
  • Talking through how to collaborate with a provider when care feels confusing, stalled, or mismatched
  • Clarifying whether another service, provider, level of care, or referral may be needed
